The white truffle in Tuscany

Tuscany offers really special places where alongside the typical , you can taste the White Truffle accompanied by a good Chianti wine. If you stop at our residence in Iano, near Montaione, you could taste the typical dishes of the nearby towns or learn how to cook them yourself thanks to our cooking course.

Montaione

The country of the green tourism” rises on a hill among the valleys of the 'Egola and Elsa rivers. Near Poggio all'Aglione, you can find the remains of the ancient Roman Cistern and near Saint Vivaldo, the Convent of the same name, built in the XVI century, and the "Jerusalem of the Valdelsa", that presents, with a series of chapels, a faithful reproduction of the holy places and the life of Jesus Christ. Montaione offers a great variety of typical dishes such as the soups of cereals and legumes, the Florentine rib steak, game prepared on a spit with an excellent olive oil.

Still in Montaione, the last weekend of October, the "Fair of the Truffle and of the typical Products" is held as well as the small "Arts and Crafts" market.

Montespertoli

Situated on the hills of Chianti, in a central position with respect to Volterra and Siena, it offers besides the typical Chianti wines, dishes such as Ribollita ( Tuscan soup ) or pappardelle alla lepre(typical pasta with hare sauce) or a particular recipe of taglierini or tagliolini (a kind of pasta ) with “blanched” white truffle with anchovies.

San Miniato

Nicknamed “the city of the XX Miles” being a few kilometres away from the cities of art such as Florence, Pisa, Siena, Volterra and San Gimignano. This ancient village offers the visitor wonderful corners of history. The typical dish of San Miniato is the panzerotti tartufati (oven baked truffle pasta in cream sauce with mushrooms ); a real delight!

On the last 3 weekends of November, the “National Market fair of the White Truffle” is held in San Miniato.

Volterra

Etruscan, Roman, Medieval and Renaissance Tuscan town overlooking the Val di Cecina and the sea from up the hill, Volterra is immersed in an intact and unique landscape and it’s famous all over the world for the alabaster handicraft and its local masters who realize unique and beautiful masterpieces.

In Volterra you will be able to taste the Cinghiale alla Volterrana ( Volterrana wild boar), a dish not to be missed.

Since some years ago, in Volterra a very important festival is being organized "Volterragusto" with the sponsorship of the Comunità Montana Alta Val di Cecina, which includes the "White truffle market" and many other initiatives related to local products and gastronomic itineraries.
